National News Headlines for School Assembly

  • Security forces killed a terrorist trying to infiltrate LOC in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred on Friday, April 5, in the Uri region where alert troops foiled an infiltration bid after sensing a suspicious movement around the LoC in Uri region. 
  • Supreme Court (SC) put Allahabad High Court’s order of scrapping  Uttar Pradesh Madrassa Act on hold saying that it would affect 17 lakh students and 10,000 teachers. Earlier, Allahabad high court order had declared Uttar Pradesh (UP) Madrassa Act as unconstitutional, saying that it violates the principle of secularism. 
  • National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) revises its Class 11 and 12 textbooks by dropping mentions of demolition of Babri Masjid, Muslim deaths in Gujarat riots, and Manipur. These are the latest round of revision made by  NCERT in its textbooks. As per sources, the changes will be soon reflected in the online textbooks as well. 
  • Supreme Court (SC) transfers 27 writ petitions pending across nine state high courts to itself. The plea challenges the levy of 28% GST on online real-money gaming. Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud said that it would be better for SC to have a look at the matter and deliver an authoritative rule instead of multiple high courts hearing the same issue and ruling out different decisions. 
  • India carries out successful test launch of the new-generation ballistic missiles named ‘Agni Prime’ on April 3, Wednesday around 7 pm. The Defence Ministry has stated that the test met all the objectives giving out a reliable performance. The test launch was carried out from Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.

  • A group of Indian students starts ‘Fair Visa, Fair Chance’ campaign in UK challenging the continuation of the UK post-study visa. As per the reports, the visa allows graduates to work in the country after 2 years of studies. Reports have also said that the discontinuation of this visa might affect Britain’s economy as well. 
  • University of Washington conducts a ground-breaking experiment on April 2, to combat Climate Change. The experiment follows “Cloud-Brightening” technique where the reflectivity of clouds is increased to reduce the amount of rays absorbed by Earth. The objective of this experiment is to lower the earth’s temperature thereby combating climate change.
  • A 20-year-old Chinese man gets diagnosed with an unusual condition named ‘Delusional Love Disorder’. Reports said that the man thought all his female classmates liked him. Later, he started showing strong displays of love towards his classmates. After treatment, the disorder has been prevented. 
  • In a recent update in Baltimore Bridge Tragedy, Joe Biden will meet the families of the deceased, survey the collapsed bridge. Reports have also stated that the Baltimore shipping is likely to resume by the end of April.

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) enables cash-deposit facility via UPI at ATM. Now, customers will be able to deposit cash at Cash Deposit Machines at ATMs through UPI.
