The Best Travel Credit Cards for 2024

Must read

When it comes to traveling, having the right credit card in your wallet can make all the difference.

A great travel credit card can net you big rewards for a variety of expenses and maybe even get you access to special perks like luxe airport lounges and more.

The experts at WalletHub recently analyzed some of the top travel credit cards out there to reveal which ones offer the most benefits in 2024.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

WalletHub’s experts deem the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card the best travel credit card overall because of its “great initial bonus” and the fact that users are rewarded with “at least double points on all travel purchases.”

Cardholders who spend at least $4,000 in the first three months will earn 60,000 bonus points, redeemable for $750 in travel booked through Chase.

Choice Privileges Select Mastercard

The Choice Privileges Select Mastercard is the best travel credit card for hotel stays. Users can receive an initial bonus of 60,000 points after spending $3,000 in the first three months and will earn 10 points per $1 spent at Choice Hotels and five points per $1 spent at gas stations, grocery stores and home improvement stores.

Cardholders will also receive 30,000 bonus points after each account anniversary, enough for at least one free night.

JetBlue Plus Card

The JetBlue Plus Card is the best travel credit card for airline rewards because users are rewarded early and often, WalletHub points out. New cardholders can secure as many as 60,000 points when they make at least $1,000 in purchases within three months of opening an account and paying the $99 annual fee.

The downside is that users will want to fly JetBlue, which could limit their flight options.

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

Travelers in search of a big initial bonus should set their sights on the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. Users can trigger a 75,000-mile rewards bonus when they spend at least $4,000 in the first three months, which can be redeemed for $750 in travel.

What’s more, cardholders will also earn five miles per $1 spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and two miles per $1 on all other purchases.

Chase Sapphire Reserve

If you have excellent credit, consider the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. New cardholders get an initial bonus of 60,000 bonus points for spending $4,000 in the first three months.

Users also earn 10 points per $1 spent on hotels and car rentals booked through Chase, five points per $1 spent on flights purchased through Chase, three points per $1 spent on all other travel and dining purchases and a slew of perks such as annual travel credits, access to 1,300-plus airport lounges worldwide, and an application fee credit every four years for Global Entry, NEXUS or the ever-expanding TSA PreCheck.

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

While the annual fee of $395 is likely to turn away many, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card offers an initial bonus of 75,000 miles for spending $4,000 in the first three months and cardholders earn 10 miles for every $1 spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, five miles per $1 spent on flight bookings made through Capital One Travel and two miles per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Discover it Miles

The Discover it Miles card is the best travel credit card without an annual fee. Plus, users can earn 1.5 miles per $1 spent on all purchases in addition to a bonus equal to all the rewards they earn the first year.

Discover it Miles also boasts a zero percent foreign transaction fee, WalletHub points out.

Citi Premier Card

The best credit card for travel and dining, the Citi Premier Card rewards users with 60,000 bonus points when they spend $4,000 in the first three months, which they can use for up to $600 in gift cards and travel rewards.

Additionally, cardholders will receive a total of 10 points per $1 spent on hotel, car rentals, and attractions (excluding air travel) booked on the Citi Travel portal through the first half of 2024 (June 30, 2024).
