Tech News of the Week in India: Generative AI is taking over consumer technology, with brands like Intel and AMD announcing new chips with a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) for​​ laptops, Meta is adding AI capability to WhatsApp Business, and Apple is touted to unveil new AI features for iPhones, iPads, and Macs on June 10, at WWDC 2024.

    This year’s theme at Computex was “Connecting AI,” where tech giants like Intel and AMD introduced new chips with generative AI capabilities for consumers and businesses. Qualcomm showcased its latest Snapdragon X series-powered laptops, while NVIDIA teased upcoming AI accelerators likely to power next-generation AI servers and large language models.

    Meta Adds AI to WhatsApp Business

    Recently, Meta introduced generative AI features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Now, the company has launched a generative AI-backed tool within WhatsApp for Business to help small and medium businesses integrate AI into their chatbots. Additionally, Meta introduced Meta Verified in India, allowing businesses on WhatsApp to feature a green checkmark to distinguish them from counterfeit accounts.

    New smartphone launches teased

    Motorola, Nothing, Oppo, Realme, and Xiaomi have offered glimpses of their upcoming smartphones. Devices such as the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, CMF Phone 1, Oppo F27 Pro+, Realme GT 6, and Xiaomi 14 Civi, boasting Leica-tuned cameras, are set to hit the Indian market soon. While some of these phones promise AI features and top-tier performance, others, like the CMF Phone 1, cater to the budget segment.
