Samuli Sipila Wins Triton Montenegro $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Title

Must read

Samuli Sipila is a force to be reckoned with on the burgeoning pot-limit Omaha tournament circuit. The 31-year-old Finnish poker pro has made five final tables and won three titles so far this year, all in PLO events. He has cashed for more than $1.3 million across those scores, with his largest payday yet being the $535,000 he earned as the champion of the 2024 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro $25,000 pot-limit Omaha event.

Sipila exploded on the live scene earlier this year with an impressive showing at the PokerGO Tour PLO Series. He won two titles and made four final tables during that festival, securing the player of the series honors in the process.

“It’s a pretty run good year,” Sipila told Triton reporters when asked about his decision to attend this high-stakes festival. “It’s pretty unreal. When you’re running this hot, why not come?”

Sipila now has nearly $2.1 million in career cashes to his name, with the vast majority having been earned since the start of the year.

With the 672 Card Player Player of the Year points he earned for his most recent victory at the Maestral Resort & Casino in Montenegro, Sipila has climbed to 36th place on the 2024 POY leaderboard presented by Global Poker.

This tournament drew 82 entries, creating a prize pool of $2,050,000 that was paid out among the top 14 finishers. Plenty of big names ran deep, including Isaak Haxton (13th), Masashi Oya (11th), Jose ‘Nacho’ Barbero (10th), Quan Zhou (9th), Ronald Keijzer (6th), and Anson Ewe (3rd).

Mikalai Vaskaboinikau finished as the runner-up, falling just short of securing the title in back-to-back events. The Belarusian businessman took down the $125,000 buy-in main event a day earlier, topping the massive 171-entry field in that event to earn more than $4.7 million. He added another $371,000 to his tally with this second-place finish, growing his lifetime earnings to more than $8.7 million.

Here is a look at the payouts and POY points awarded at the final table:
