Longhouse Poet Grand National Odds: Hopeful Of Improving On Last Year’s Sixth
The Martin Brassil-trained Longhouse Poet has attracted interest in the 2023 Grand National betting market and it’s easy to see why.
12 months ago, the 9 year-old was a fair sixth in the race but that experience coupled with being another year older make him an interesting Grand National runner.
Yes, he was beaten 34 lengths by Noble Yeats last year, but he had to give that horse 8lbs and this year it’s a different story on the weight front. Longhouse Poet will actually be getting 11lbs from the 2022 hero – meaning a massive 19lb turnaround.
You can back LONGHOUSE POET for the 2023 Grand National at 12/1 – you can support him here and also get the best Grand National betting offers.

Longhouse Poet Heads Into The National In Winning Form
Longhouse Poet has also returned his season in good order. He won at Limerick on Boxing Day over hurdles to show his versatility. While last time out he stayed on well over 3m2f to win at Down Royal (watch below) – beating another possible 2023 Grand National runner Roi Mage by 1 1/4 lengths.
What Weight Will Longhouse Poet Carry in the 2023 Grand National?
Last year Longhouse Poet carried 11st 4lbs when 6th, but the handicapper has given him a chance this time by rating him off the same mark 155. This means though with some slightly better rivals this time, that he’ll have 4lbs less in racing weight and is set to carry 11st.
Since 2009 we’ve seen two Grand National winners carry 11st to victory – Mon Mome (2009) and Ballabriggs (2011).
Longhouse Poet Bidding to Become Fifth Irish-Trained National Winner In-a-Row
The Irish have dominated the Grand National at Aintree in recent times. The Emerald Isle handlers have crossed the Irish Sea to win the last four runnings and they are well-represented again in 2023.
As it stands only Corach Rambler (Lucinda Russell) is a non-Irish-trained runner in the top 8 in the betting, with the Dan Skelton runner Le Milos next best.
Longhouse Poet is one of these leading Irish-trained runners that has been well-backed in the build-up to the 2023 Grand National.
The recent Irish-trained winners were Noble Yeats (2022), Minella Times (2021), Tiger Roll (2018/19). While 8 of the last 17 winners were also Irish-trained.
Martin Brassil Trained The 2006 Grand National Winner
Longhouse Poet’s trainer Martin Brassil also has some Grand National history to his name. The County Kildare yard won the race in 2006 with a horse called Numbersixvalverde, who was ridden by Niall ‘Slippers’ Madden.
