The 2023 Masters field grew by four on Monday when Jason Day, Harris English, Keith Mitchell and Min Woo Lee punched their tickets to Augusta National Golf Club. Day reached the quarterfinals of the WGC Match Play last Saturday, jumping into the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He has posted five top-10 finishes since starting the year at No. 112 and has four top-10s at Augusta in his career. Day is a 33-1 longshot in the latest 2023 Masters odds at Caesars Sportsbook. The Masters 2023 begins on Thursday, April 6.
Jon Rahm is the 15-2 favorite, while Scottie Scheffler is 8-1 and Rory McIlroy is 17-2. Five-time champion Tiger Woods is a 55-1 longshot on the PGA odds board. SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $8,400 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted Jon Rahm to finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. The model also included J.T. Poston in its best bets to win the 2022 John Deere Classic. That bet hit at +5500, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned almost $1,100. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first career major championship victory heading into the weekend.
In addition, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. The model was also all over Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.
This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
Now that the 2023 Masters field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top 2023 Masters predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2023 Masters: Jordan Spieth, a three-time major champion and one of the top favorites, struggles mightily at Augusta National and doesn’t even crack the top 12. Spieth was a three-time major champion before his 25th birthday, but he fell significantly in the world rankings during a four-year winless drought that spanned from 2017 to 2021.
Spieth eventually got back in the win column at the Valero Texas Open in 2021 and also won the 2022 RBC Heritage for his 13th career PGA Tour title. Now, he’s No. 16 in the Official World Golf Ranking, but is coming off a missed cut at the 2022 Masters and also finished 46th there in 2020. He also missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational earlier this season and faded from contention with a 72 on Sunday at the Players Championship, so he hasn’t played his best golf in premier events of late.
The model has also revealed where Tiger will finish at the 2023 Masters. He rewrote the history books when he won the 1997 Masters by 12 strokes, going on to win 15 major championships and 82 PGA Tour titles. Woods made his first competitive start in more than 500 days when he played at Augusta National last year.
The 47-year-old was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame last March and has made the cut in 23 of 24 appearances at the Masters. His lone PGA Tour appearance this year came at the Genesis Invitational in February when he finished 45th at one-under-par. Woods is not considered a top contender at the Masters 2023, but his history of success at Augusta National cannot be discounted.
